Baby Thrift

UX Designer Leading design: Conducting interviews, paper and digital wire framing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting accessibility, iterating on designs and responsive design.

At-a-Glance 👀
My task was to design an iOS mobile app, targeting users who face challenges in recycling children's clothing in a resourceful way. The project involved three rounds of wire framing, prototyping, and testing. Within a span of 2 months, I successfully delivered a comprehensive set app design, a design system, and a case study.

Problem:
Many parents are facing a common frustration: constantly wasting their children's clothes as they quickly outgrow them. It's a challenge that not only leads to unnecessary expenses but also contributes to environmental waste. In response to this problem, parents are seeking a solution that allows them to be more resourceful when de-cluttering their kids' wardrobes

This framework not only enables the ecological recycling of children's clothing, but also allows parents to thrift virtually, providing a solution that is both cost-effective and environmentally conscious

Solution:
Baby Thrift, a startup dedicated to addressing the common frustration faced by parents of constantly wasting their children's clothes as they quickly outgrow them, has developed a resourceful problem-solving framework.

Process:

User research:

Throughout my research, I have gained a clear understanding of the target user and their needs. I discovered that many users are seeking a convenient method to donate clothing. Moreover, I was reminded of the widespread popularity of online shopping. Although the specific needs may vary, the application will be beneficial for both types of users.

Personas:
Based on valuable feedback obtained from supervised user research, we diligently incorporated the insights into our user personas. One notable example is Fatima, a parent who expressed deep frustration over the wastefulness associated with her children's clothing. Understanding her need for a more convenient and efficient way to de-clutter, we aimed to develop a solution that addresses her specific pain point.

Empathy Map
To enhance comprehension of the user, an empathy map was devised to establish a connection with the end user.

Goals and Methods

Objective:
User needs to get rid of baby clothes in a resourceful way → we audit industry competitors to understand how the Baby Thrift app compares

Research Questions
1. Are we attracting the audience we are talking to?
2. How does the application look and feel? Does the design complement the products?
3. Will the users get confused as they navigate through the app?

Procedure
We have reviewed these aspects of competitive thrift services and their website or app design. → Audience, First thoughts, User interaction, Visual design, content.

Competitive Audits
I analyzed our competitors for inspiration and to also fill in the gaps where they are lacking. Competitors include Thred Up

Accessibility Considerations:
1. Universal Icons for easy understanding
2. Used color contrast principles
3. Simple design for easy navigation

Takeaways
1. Impact: Our target users reported that the design was easy to navigate and visually appealing.
2.
Study participant: “i love the vibe it gives”
3.
What I learned: I discovered that iterations are the most effective approach to meeting user needs. It involved a lot of back-and-forth, but I am content with the research I conducted. The most significant lesson for me is to consistently prioritize the genuine needs of the user during the design process.

Next steps:
1. Conduct follow up usability study
2. Identify any additional areas of need and ideate on new features
